George W Bush has said the Republican Party he served as president has become “isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist” and added he is especially concerned about anti-immigration rhetoric.
“It’s a beautiful country we have and yet it’s not beautiful when we condemn, call people names and scare people about immigration,” Mr Bush told NBC’s Today show.
The former US president, who was in New York to preside over a naturalisation ceremony, said his new book, Out Of Many, One: Portraits Of America’s Immigrants, aims to “elevate the discourse”.

Academy Award-nominated Olivia Colman is reportedly joining Marvel universe. The Crown actress is currently in talks to star in the Marvel series Secret Invasion which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. The series will the next series in the Disney+ lineup.
According to Deadline, In Secret Invasion, Jackson and Mendelsohn reprise their MCU characters Nick Fury and the Skrull Talos, respectively, who first met in Captain Marvel. The crossover comic event series showcases a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
The reports suggest that Kingsley Ben-Adir of Netflix s The OA fame is starring as the villain in the upcoming series. Marvel is yet to confirm Colman s involvement in the project.

Several doctors have been prevented from seeing Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in a prison hospital after his three-week hunger strike.
Mr Navalny was transferred on Sunday from a penal colony east of Moscow to a prison hospital in Vladimir, a city 180 kilometres (110 miles) east of the capital, after his lawyers and associates said his condition had dramatically worsened.
His lawyer Vadim Kobzev tweeted that Mr Navalny so far has received only one glucose injection since Sunday at the hospital unit, which is intended to treat tuberculosis patients.
